Masala Chana (Chickpea) Chaat

 

Want something delicious and healthy to break your fast? Try this simple Masala Chana Chaat recipe. I tried it with a slight twist in ingredients by adding pomegranate and mango chutney and it turned out to be delicious. For those not fasting, it can be eaten as a vegan/vegetarian salad as well. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chilli, finely chopped
  • 250g (9 oz) potatoes, peeled, cooked and cubed
  • 400g (1 tin) chickpeas, drained
  • 1 pomegranate, deseeded
  • 5ml (½ tsp) garam masala
  • 25ml (¼ tsp) dried chilli powder
  • 5ml (1 tsp) sea salt
  • 30g (1oz) fresh cilantro leaves
  • 125ml (½ cup) plain yogurt
  • 125ml (½ cup) mango chutney

Preparation:

  1. Mix the onion, chilli, potatoes, chickpeas, pomegranate, garam masala, chilli powder and salt in a large bowl and stir thoroughly.
  2. Divide the mixture among 4 plates and top with coriander, yogurt and chutney.
